Code scanner help?

I'm new here so this is only my second post. First of all I have to thank jtsmith and techieman33 for their prompt help with an air cleaner box question I had a while back. Thanks again. It was easy once I did what you said. Now my question. I bought a code reader which came with a very vague instruction manual. I know that to check DTCs I need to have the ignition on but the truck not running, but how do I check I/M monitor status, review freeze frame data and review live data (Ignition on or truck running). The instructions didn't say. This is a hand held self contained unit (doesn't hook up to a PC) but it has the above capabilities. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!!!

The truck will have to be running to view the data your wanting to see. What unit did you buy, maybe someone will be able to give you specific instructions.
