Hi there, I just purchased a '99 limited AWD and would like to put on a cold air intake and was wondering what choices are out there.

Thanks!

Rob:)

Welcome to the forum
The MAC intake is about your best bet for a kit-
You might try making your own--

Search the forums and develop your own opinion from others'.

the MAC kits are good for delivering what you are looking for in an intake kit, there's the K&N FIPK but they tend to be expensive and you would be hard pressed to find a real difference between the two on a stock motor.

there is the option of making your own, but IME when i built my own intake for my old 2.3L mustang, the PVC warped from the heat within a week, i would stay away from making your own unless you have access to someone who can weld and fabricate, or unless you plan on some serious off road action and will need a snorkel of some sort.

i always thought you could make your own by taking the stock box, remove the filter, but a con that will fit nicely inside of it and purchase the piece that will bolt onto the inside of the box using the stock maf bolts and clamp the cone onto that then cut out a huge hole in the side of the box and one in the bottom for drainage.

i spent $260 for a volant intake and i love it.

Thanks very much for the info. I will check into the ones mentioned!

Grazie!

I looked at the MAC site & only see boxes for the 6 cyl. engines., 3 types. Will one of these fit my 5.0 V8??

I made my current intake out of ducting from Home Depot for $60ish. I've also made intakes out of pvc and NEVER had a problem with them warping. Had one in my firebird resting right on the rad and never had a problem.

check on ebay.. I got a sweet one with everything you need for $60 mandrel bent tube, filter, MAF adapter.. and its as good as one from K&N or Volant or MAC

airmax

Has any one tried the airmax intake. That's the one Im wanting to purchase. Whats the cost on it I cant find it anywhere.

It seems that none of these intakes are actual "Cold Air" intakes. Especially the ones that are wide open to under hood hot air, with the cone shaped filters & a heat sheild. The setup on my Tang GT put the filter in the fender, away from the engine compartment. I think I am gonna do some customizing on the stock air box. Get a K&N & drill some extra holes on the side facing the front of the vehicle. I did this on a 2000 cougar & it made a huge difference!

I appreciate all the help!!

Thanks!
