Extended Weather Outlook

I just checked the weather outlook for Labor Day weekend for Montrose (the closest listing there was.) It is supposed to be in the low to mid 80s, with a chance of a thunder storm on Saturday. Sounds like great weather to me!!

24 more days ............ :bounce:

Now that's positive thinking, Scott! ;) We make fun of the weather people here b/c they can't get the forecast correct from day to day, let alone three weeks from now!

Actually, I've got to cut 'em a break; my father's an independent meteorologist and is constantly telling me how difficult it is to forecast in Colorado. Something about these little hills called the Continental Divide... :D

Still, I like the forecast you posted! :bounce:

heres my form of weather forecasting...
lick pointer finger, stick in air. A good sense of feeling will allow you to tell approximately what direction and how fast the wind is.
Quite a few Clouds in the sky? It's partly sunny
only a few clouds in the sky? Partly cloudy
Is it Raining right now? 100% chance of rain
Otherwise, 50% chance (it might, it might not)
If I just washed my car, increase that to 85% chance (it might, it might not, but more then likely it will)

And if that doesn't help you predict the weather, I don't know what will :).

Thats the way I predict the weather too. The only thing that weather forcasters are good for here in CO are telling you how hot it is right NOW. :)

...and during the winter, telling us how much snow we should expect, after it's already fallen. ;)

Sign me up!!

Better late than never, right? If there's a spot next to the fire at the KOA, me and mine will fill it. Can't wait to meet some of you big dawgs I've been reading about.

Great to hear you've decided to join, Trint

Three things:

1) Here's the link to the KOA http://www.koa.com/where/co/06158.htm Call and get a resv immediately. Tell them you are part of the Explorer Group. Also, Scott Bosso got a KOA cabin but changed his mind and is trying to get someone to take it. You might contact him to see if it is still available if you want a cabin instead of tentsite.

2) Go to Rod's website at Dead Link Removed and add your name(s) to the list.

3) Find the other threads in this forum asking for Colorado participant's ETA and Dinner plans and respond to those.

Welcome!

Hey wabbit!

I was wondering if your friend in the FJ40 is coming. My friend and 'wheeling mentor also drives an FJ and I'm sure he'd enjoy the trip, though I'm not sure he could make it. I know this is an Explorer club, but I feel a sort of kinship with all anti-j**p ... er ... non-j**p 'wheelers.

SKIDPLATES

We have at least three participants who categorized their vehicles as "stock".

If you do not already have them, I STRONGLY suggest you get skidplates for your trip with us.

Gerald

Got 'em...

Jen and I already have the factory skid plates provided on our Sports. I have to say that's a somewhat ominous post though, Gerald. ;) Do you know something we don't know, or just being cautious...?

I second what Gerald said about skid plates. Stockers will most likley use them, especially the transfer case skid plate ... I can still see where the Engineer Pass rocks left their mark a month ago.

Re: Got 'em...

Nope, no ominous post. Just wanting everyone to come prepared. You'll be fine.

Tom, with the FJ40 (custom $15 camo paint job compliments of yours truly :) will be there. He lives in Ouray, and has recently purchased a 91 XLT 4x4 (guess who talked him into that one...)
He hasn't been on the message boards but we can count on him for "residential experience" in and around Ouray.
Also, I would like to point out that Ouray has a wonderfully historic Elks Lodge. Of course, any Elks members, and guests are welcome.

CB Channel

Since we haven't picked a CB channel yet, how about this:

Channel 19 on the big roads
Channel 4 in town (Ouray, Ridgecrest, etc.) and on the trails
Channel 8 for a second channel on the trails (if we split into 2 groups)

I'm planning on staying on 19 (to hear about wrecks, construction, etc.) on the Interstates, and maybe the highways. I figure most others are, also.

Once we meet up along the road, we can always change to a quieter channel to talk.

What do ya'll think?

Announcements

1) This weekend I will post a thread entitled "Colorado Fall Colors Run Itinerary 2000" with all the applicable info I can think of to coordinate this trip. I will close the thread so there can be no responses to it, but I will retain the ability to change items within it later, per suggesions made on this thread. The idea is to have one center of info for the trip that does not get lost in a thread with dozens/hundreds of other posts. I will be surfing this thread and the other Colorado threads for input in case changes need to be made to the itinerary.

2) I will be alone in my vehicle except for my dog, and need a rider to film with my Sharp Viewcam. Rick or Char, if your Explorer is not available, please consider riding with me. If yours is finished and you can drive it, anyone else would be welcome. :smoke:

3) :bounce: we're getting close!

We appreciate the offer Gerald, we will be joining you guys in Colorado no matter what, but I sure hope it's with our Explorer.

I don't suppose that any of you out there are from illinois and are going? If so...could you E-mail me?

scott.colba@stltechpartners.com

thanx a lot!!

I was thinking about putting on a body lift before the trip. Do you think it would look funny with 31s, should I just wait until I can get 33s?

Dignan,

You can never get enough clearance. I say do the lift and worry about the tires/looks afterwards. I'm taking my 1" hockey pucks out and going to a real 2" body lift this weekend.

Hey, do me a favor and go to the ETA thread and post your information there so I can get you on the schedule, pretty please? :D

ATTN: Ray H.

Ray,

It appears that only you and I would be available for a run Friday morning. If it is okay with you, I would like to spend that morning doing a pre-run on Poughkeepsie Gulch, to learn if my vehicle can do it. I want to try it, but do not want to wait until the real run and then find out I cannot and hold up the BigDawgs that day.

What do you think?
