Hey all. I have just installed my system and It is sounding very nice. But as many of you know, I like to plan ahead. I am already planning my stealthboxes and my custom amp enclosure. It is currently undecided if I will be upgrading my subs to JL w3v2's. If anyone has these subs I would love to know what you think of them. My sony's are ok, but I am not dumb enough to think they are top of the line.

Anyway, back to the subject. Now that I have a fulltime job doing a bit of upgrading is a viable option. I will probably do the afore mentioned upgrades in a month or two after I have a little financial cussion. But what I have always wanted to do was components. A few of my friends have some nice ones and I would like to add a pair. What I would do is use the sony hu's RCA's and add another amp (small one, probably a kenwood that puts out like 60w rms for around 100 bucks). I would then use that to power the speakers. I would leave the other door speakers (pioneer 4-ways) installed and still use them.

On to the components. I am looking at the middle line JL 5.25 or 6.5 inch ones. I would mount the tweeter on the door trim (like everyone does) but what I would do for the woofers is build a small box that I could put in front of the center console above the tranny hump. I could carpet it and all and it would match nicely. My question is are sealed boxes apropriate for these component speakers. I am not really clear if these are "woofer" speakers or just "midrange" speakers that don't quite behave like subwoofers. Which is the large speaker, woofer or mid?

So basically my main question is what kind of enclosure I ought to make. I would probably just build it out of mdf, or maybe fiberglass if I was feeling lucky, but I feel more comfortable with wood.

Thanks fellas, I won't be reading this for a week after tomorrow morning so that gives yall plenty of time to rack up the advice :). Peace out. Happy memorial day.

Hrm, JL's guide says tweeters should go closer to the woofer so that means I will probably be looking at putting the tweets with the rest of the box. I don't really see what is better about kick panels because at least in my experience my legs tend to hurt the sound from the speaker a bit...and my big feet my smash the speakers :(.

So yeah, any experience here would be nice. Adios.

So, you want to leave your door speakers in and ADD Components. Not Replace your door speakers with components. I havent heard that too much. I think your Imaging would be terrible. I like the idea...Im just not too sure its a very good one. Your best bet is to replace the speakers in your door with the component woofer. You have to build custom brackets to do it, but its worth it.

drew runs like 3 sets of comps in the front now so it wont hurt the imaging having more then the speakers aslong as it is done right

id toss the tweets on the dash aiming at the windsheild then put the 6.5 in the door call it quits
