I took the compressor off of my 92 ex (R-12), it was no good. A guy did a motor swap a few years back (before I bought it) didn't line up the manifold properly and crushed both pipes coming into the back of the compressor.

So I have a compressor from my 95 Aerostar (r-134a only on the label) that I know is in good working order. That I have put in already but have not charged the system yet. After doing some reading in this section I am having second thoughts. I do have a compressor from a 93 ex that I do not know the story on at all (bought the 93 as a parts truck) but it has held a charge for a few years now.

1) So do I swap in the older r-12 compressor in the place of the r-134a I just installed?

2) What do I charge this system with when I am done? I wanted to do it myself as I had already invested money in a recharge kit but need to get new cans of refrigerant as the other stuff was in the garage all winter and it got down to -50C a few times last winter.
