I just picked up a 97 Explorer and I'm having some AC issues. The previous owner said that the AC used to blow somewhat cold until recently. Never checked it out though.

DETAILS:

The compressor is cycling on and off approximately every 10 seconds.

I put a set of manifold gauges on it and when the compressor kicks on the low side will drop down to about 40 PSI but the high side climbs all the way past 400 psi, then the compressor kicks off.

OVERCHARGED?

  • It could be. But first you need to check it.
U have a 2007 v6? Right
1. What is the outside ambient temperature?
1a. What is the vent temperature?
1b. You have electric fans. Is the AC fan running( or working)?

2. With the manifold gauges connected spray water on and thru the condenser.
A) What is the high side pressure now? Did it come down?
B) what the condition of the condenser?
Are there any fins there?
3. You should be able too check the condenser fan by the doing the following.
Turn the key too the on position. Engine off.
Turn the AC on. Does the fans start running?

A Check:
If you drive your vehicle with the AC on. The center vent air , should be cool.
When you come to a stop the vent air will be warm.
