Ok. After sifting through all the posts that have been made concerning the TT and WAR153s, i've got three questions before i'm ready to go ahead and take the plunge.

1) I noted that some people mentioned that doing the TT on a 4x4 is not advisable. True or false?

2) I'll be getting the WAR153s from a local 4x4 shop here. Assuming that the stock is not updated, which bolts should i be looking to replace. I notice that there was a question about whether the 1/2"bolts would perform as well as the 9/16s. Please understand that i have ZERO idea as to what a bleedin' shackle looks like, so be gentle. LOL! :)

3) If i read the TT instructions correctly, i should crank the bolts till i get about 2" from the original clearance, and it will settle to about 1.5-1.75" after a test drive. Is that correct?

Thanks guys!

The concern about doing a TT on a 4X4 is that it increases the slip angle on the cv joint. What this means is that the axle will approach the wheel at a sharper angle, which makes the cv joint work a little harder (so does turning the wheels :) ) As long as you don't bind up the cv joints, you will be ok. You can test this by raising the nose of the vehicle (after the tt), turning the wheels to lock, and spinning the wheels by hand. If they don't bind, you should be all right.

As for the bolts, the Warrior Shackles come with the proper bolts (at least mine did). The new bolts should be the same diameter as the ones you take out. If they are smaller, the springs will be loose on the bolts, and wear the bushings out quickly. You can get around this problem by buying the proper size grade 5 or better bolts, and drilling out the holes in the shackles to fit the new bolts.

You are correct on #3. Just make sure you don't bind. Some people have found that they can't go up 2". If you find this, there are threads relating to why not on the board.

good luck!!

P.S., I've had my TT & Shackles on for about 3 months/4k miles, and I am quite happy with it.

Oh, i think i've read those threads. If i'm not mistaken, the 2" was not possible because they had D grade torsion bars or something to that extent. My vehicle has B bars and F springs, so i'm pretty confident that i can get the 2". Even if i don't, i'm still happy as long as i get SOME lift and no damage. Accidents are one thing....stupidity is another. :)

Just bring the dang thing over to my place and we can swap in a dana 60 and a 9", I think you would like your exploder with a 14" lift and 44"s!!!!!
When are we lifting it??????!!!!!!

if plrbear doest take you up on that offer i will. ive the dana 60 front and rear on my dodg 3/4 ton. wouldnt that be badass. have a 3/4 ton fullsize drivetrain on an explorer? so when do you want to start?

You probably won't be able to get a full 2". The EB edition already comes a little jacked up to fit the 16" stock tires. When I did mine, I got just over 1" with no problem. My TT screw are almost bottomed out.

Take a look at my pics to see what your's will look like (I have the add a leaf though). Sorry the picts are a little blurry. I'm in college so that means cheap cameras, computers, hell, cheap everything (except for my X of copurse ;) )
