I wanted to get a bug shield for my 01 XLT that is contoured to fit the hood (bends down and in following the hood line) but was told by at least 3 shops in town that nobody makes one. They are only made for the 3rd gens and the Sport Tracs. So I bought an older style Lund shield.

So today I'm driving back to work after lunch, and coming up behind me is a 2nd gen Explorer with the exact bug shield I was looking for. I didn't want to try and chase the guy down, so I'm wondering if anyone here knows who makes this "cool" bug shield? And if so, who's got the best price? I just spend $70 on this one, but I really want that newer style.

Thanks,
Blue

The BugDeflector by AVS ( Auto Vent Shade )

On my second gen, the shape is near perfect.
I can not recall what I paid for it, but it was not terrible.

I got the clear and then painted just the back side to match.

I'm not sure you know what I mean. I'm talking about a bug shield that isn't straight all the way across -- it bends in and down an inch or so, 10 inches from the edge of the hood, matching the same pattern the hood has. I've looked at the Bugdeflector I and II and neither do this on a 2nd gen.

You cant even tell I have a bug deflector on mine the contours are exact and I bought mine from the Ford dealer even says Ford on it for 65 bucks.

Post some pics so we can see then.

This is the best that I've seen

Or are you thinking something like this

More like this -

See how it bends down on either side, in the same place the hood comes down? I'm talking like 8-10 inches in from either side. I can't find a pic of one on an Explorer -- if I could find that I'd be closer to figuring out who makes it.

I dont have any pics "sorry" but it does look alot like the lund on the X above just a little tighter to the hood.

Your picture didn't show up

I saw an AVS one like that called the cameleon or something like that. It had some weird colors, but maybe something to look into. AVS is probably the most dominant company on the market, they've got to have it.

Yeah my AVS fits like the one you have pictured Blue Volume.

I kid you not, ten feet back you can barely tell it is even on the vehicle.

I will attempt to post a photo this weekend.
I will be out of town, so it might not be till Sunday.
