2002 ford explorer xlt
Hello, I recently purchased a 2002 explorer Xlt. The previous owner put different brand tires on the front wheels and now the transfer case is shot. I put 4 brand new tires on it but it's too late. Is there any way to eliminate the transfer case and connect the driveshaft directly to the tails haft of the transmission? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

You would have to remove the front drive shaft, transfer case, and rear drive shaft and find a drive shaft from a rwd explorer, or just find an explorer/mountaineer in a junk yard with the same transfer case and swap them. Your other option would be to remove the linkages from inside the transfer case so there is not link between the front and rear wheels.

If there were 2 different size tires on the front I am wondering if the front diff is the problem.

Thanks for the reply. I already removed the front driveshaft. He front tires were the same size 235 70 16 but different brands. When I put new tires on it the noise got worse even without the front drive shaft. If the front diff is shot I guess I'll need to remove the axles too. Thanks again
