Well ladies and germs this looks like the end of road for me and my explorer. I drove a 99 Mercury cougar today and i loved it. I love my explorer but don't love the gas milage it gets. My X is up for sale, anyone intrested please let me know. I've learned much from this board, and hopefully have helped others just as much. But i'll be around for a couple more weeks but thats about it.... as soon as we can get the dealer to come down about $500 to $750 more i'll be getting it, pending insurance won't get me in the rear for it.

Sorry to hear it, man. I'll be getting rid of my Ex soon too for the same reason, but also because the trans is shot.

You're at least getting the V6, right? :D

oh yeah most likely v6 sport package, i guess its tight tighter suspension and what not..... i dunno
by the way your system is the ****!

well unless your going to buy a "guy car" and pay insurance and give me gas money the cougar is a guy car. :)

they can be made to look rather tight without becoming IMPORTISH

No offense man, just tellin it how it is.

You should have been looking a few months ago where I live lol, our dealership, Lincoln Mercury, had a fully customized Cougar with a supercharger, full Katzkin interior, custom dash and Alpine system, also it was a manual, pretty sweet but yeh...it's a chick car;) :p .

Depending on what your getting the 99' for, I would have personnaly gone for a 99' Maxima SE with a 5 speed. Pure sleeper and hauls ass, and is awsome on gas, gotta love the VQ engine:D

EDIT- I agree with what DonM said below, the Mazda 6 is damn nice and fast for the price and handles like it's on rails.

Mazda 6

i am not sure what model it is i know its a 99, I know 88vert, i might swap you tails, but we'll see how it goes. i am tryign to selll it outright first.

I see everyone wants to diss the car i'm getting but no one wants to pay for it, hmmm interesting.

IMO hondas are girls cars, VW bugs are girls cars. the cougar is a slick looking car but that doesn't matter because i'm the one who is going to make the payments so ya'll can take your oppinons and shove them. unless you want to pay for a 2003 explorer for me:p

You know with the gas prices going up I thought about getting rid of the ex and buying a car but then I thought more.............

Currently spending on ex every month (excluding maint)

Gas: $120.00
Payment $0.00
Insurance $50.00
Total $170.00

Now if I go and buy a new CAR:

Gas: $70.00
Payment: $300.00 (Thats low)
Insurance $100.00 (full coverage)
Total $470.00

I am saving money keeping my Ex. Mainenance maybe add average $100.00, or $1200.00 a year with new brakes and oil changes. But I have to do oil changes in the new car too.

Anyways, my 2 cents.

Brian

yeah for some people its not a good move to get a new car, but i mean i'm a college student full time , and only working part tiem bringing home about $170 a week. I drive about 60miles each day, I simply can't afford $35 at the pump each week. I realize too that i will pay more for the car now, and less for gas, but that will be worth it for the long run save in gas $. I had 2 cougars prior to the explorer and they ran great well past 190,000 miles.... Cough on the original tranny COUGH. something a college kid can't afford to buy! Cough soemthing that my explorer is probably coming close to needing with 127,000 miles i imange. but who knows, i can't risk it :)

If you hate Ford's rear-drive trannies, you're going to hate their autotragic FWDs, trust me ;) The AOD and even the new AX4N really suck. Now if you get a manual, that's a different story ;) Get a ZX2 if you want fuel economy and some good punch. The 2.0 Zetec is a very nice motor, and gets much better gas mileage than the 2.5 Duratec V-6 in the Cougar (Not that the Duratec is bad)

The new bugs, yes, the classic bugs, HELL NO! I would love to customize a classic bug. They are really hot when fixed up. I found a sweet cherry red one fully restored the guy was selling for $3500 just because he was moving and didn't feel like taking all his cars. I did some research and the car was worth @$6000.
