Could we make a mod list for the 5.0?

I just want to add something here
the bosch plat 4 plugs hmm they are ok out of the box at max, over time if you drive alot they will actualy be worse then a regular plug and you can't gap these. I would actualy suggest a autolite double plat, or the iridium (or how ever you spell it) with a projected tip and OEM style they will actualy work better with the ford multispark system IMO any way they should.
They will give you a cleaner hotter and probaily about the same amount of spark

I agree because I had an experience just as you described. I put those +4's in my Honda Ody and the gas mileage went straight to hell. I replaced them with the OEM laser-type plug(NGK?), which cost more ($9-10 each), and the mileage returned to normal. How they work in a Ford, I don't know but I now stick with the OEM plugs, Motorcraft or Autolite.

Note: straight to hell = 150+ miles and a full tank of gas was gone, normal = 250+ miles.

w/e some like them, some don't. This isn't a spark plug debate.

Chris,

I am curious why you are going with the taller valve covers if you are only running 1.6 rr's? Is it more for aesthetic reasons?

A little aesthetics, a little peace of mind I won't hit the VC with a rocker arm. All of our trucks seem to be a smidge different.

might as well run some 1.7s and some longer pushrods with those valve covers. i kinda doubt you're getting hit a valve on a piston unless you are running some extreame cam

I thought long and hard about 1.7 rockers, from everything I have read, they shift your powerband up and I wheel my trucks. Therefore I need low powerband. That is why I'm still searching for the perfect cam. I'm still researching that. I may just end up saying F it and go with the E303 like everyone else since it seems to work decent in our trucks. 1.7 rockers only complicates the cam equation further as well.

Plus I'm high bidder now on a set of 1.6 brand new FRPP's.

Yep, stay away from the 1.7's on the X. No real point in running 1.7's on a vehicle this heavy unless you plan to go FI and will need the extra lift to have a longer time to shove more air into the cylinder.

What kind of RR's are you going with? Stud mount, pedestal mount??? If pedestal mount are you going for the adjustable ones or the shimmed ones? Those will determine if you will need taller VC's.

Also, you going sheetmetal or cast VC? With the cast VC's I have seen that allot of the left over casting nubs are left inside and will need to be cut off with a Dremel to fit over your RR's if they are a little tall. Overall it is likely that you do not need taller VC's unless you are going to run stud mounted rockers.

I'd post the link to Ebay but I don't want to have them stolen :)

here is a link to Jegs http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_128914_-1

going with cast, they look nicer than the sheet metal and i think they will resist corrosion better in my climate. NBD on the casting nubs, I'm looking for used anyway so someone will probably have already done that. If not, I have a dremel and a mini-grinder if nescessary.

Those will be pretty unlikely to hit a standard height aftermarket valve cover since they are your standard non-adjustable pedestal mount RR.

I prefer to leave nothing to chance. If it were not for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. As you can see I'm on my second ex/mounty. :D

I hear you. I am a member of the ROP myself.

Yeah i guess the only reason i went to 1.7 is that i din't plan on changing the cam till after i got my other project done enough to drive to school every week day.
