Been working on 08 Mountaineer with 4.0 SOHC that’s giving me gray hairs! Fighting a crank / no start that I believe is from an electrical gremlin that’s driving me nuts! Keep getting ā€œcrank fueling disabledā€. I’ve scoured here on EF and the internet for weeks and can’t get any definitive info on what things can cause ā€œcrank fueling disabledā€.

There are no PATS codes and it’s showing 2 Master keys programmed so theoretically ok. On live data it shows no crank or camshaft sensor errors and when cranking it shows them in sync. Both cluster and OBD reader shows 190-210rpm while cranking.

When turning the key to on with a jumped inertia switch, the fuel pump is commanded on for 1 second as it should when not detecting engine rotation. Believe that it’s not getting fuel bc it’ll fire with starting fluid or gas but then die.

Currently: P-1116 ECT sensor out of read codes range. P-1711 Trans Fluid Temp sensor out of read codes range.

Cluster proves out correctly when turning key, however goes completely dark many times (gauges and warning lights) when cranking, however it passes the self test and all OBD IC tests.

Last really odd thing is even after a complete keep alive memory reset (and it still not starting), live data on scan tool will frequently show short term fuel trims totally out of spec at -185 and long term fuel trims at 100 sometimes. Same with engine load - frequently will show 60%… but it never actually starts so I’m confused on how it’s generating that data.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be immensely appreciated! Thanks!

Could be the tps?
Since a pegged tps signal will disable the fuel injectors, and the 60 lod displayed it might be worth checking. Not sure if there is one on gas pedal along with the throttle body tps.

Inspect the engine wiring harness, the insulation cracks, some wires chafe.
