Cranks but won't turn over

^^ I agree, if you haven't tried to replace the fuel pump relay, that should be your first move for the fuel pump issue. When you had the fuel pump pickup replaced did you replace the pump with a new one? If not you may need a FP.

The starter issue is most likely the battery cables.

I just picked up some generic cables from Walmart that I can easily replace with the standard cables in there today when I get home... so here are my additional questions:
1) cables are showing signs of corrosion, but would a bad cable just go like that?
2) sounds like the starter isn't turning, so I will try the cables first, but how difficult is it to remove the starter?
3) If it is the starter, they are $144 new or $114 rebuilt... any suggestions?

1. The cable may have been getting more and more corroded up to the point where the voltage drop is too much and the starter doesn't have enough power any more. So, yes.
2. It's like 3 bolts, they're pretty easy to remove. After the bolts are off it should slide out.
3. It doesn't really matter if it's new or rebuilt. I would see if Autozone has a starter with a lifetime warranty on it.

Also before you take anything off if you want you can clip jumper cables onto the starter and then onto the positive side of the battery and see if it cranks. If it cranks then the cables are bad.

ok, thanks so much for the quick responses!!!! :D

took the battery to be tested and its perfect... I am trying to see where the starter is and I can not locate it? Where is it positioned in the engine bay?

If you crawl under the car the starter is at the back of the engine towards the bottom. It's right where the engine meets the transmission.

I found it... I located a few of the bolts but not all... how many hold it in place?

3,4 something like that. You should be using a shop manual of some kind, it will tell you exactly.

If you buy a starter, new or rebuilt, have them throw it on their tester BEFORE you leave. I have purchased more then one bunk starter. And it always sucks to take it home and hook it up, just to find out it doesn't work. Then you have to pull it out again, and go back to the parts store again.

I removed the first bolt no problem (top one) second one was stripped... had to slightly heat it with a torch being careful not to overheat anything... started to loosen and you can clearly see that whomever put this starter in the truck stripped it... the bottom nut was cross threaded... heres my question is the bottom nut actually connected to the bolt? so that I can simply buy a new bolt and nut?

Took me all weekend to figure it out. It ended up being the starter relay. Took the starter out and in the process I snapped the lower mounting bolt being that it was cross threaded from the factory. 14 years of rust and corrosion on a cross threaded bolt = SNAP. I was able to use 2 nuts on the exposed threading and extract the broken bolt and then retap the hole. I then took the start to Advanced Auto in Ruckersville VA and those morons could not figure out how to bench test it. Bottom line: be very cautious with those guys. I almost shelled out $150 for a new starter and that wouldn't have fixed my problem. Instead I spent $40 on a new relay, put everything back together and its good as new.

ok, so I replaced the starter relay, the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump... everything operates fine... still my problem persists... 1 in 10 attempts to start the vehicle result in the fuel pump not turning on... starter turns but since their is no pressure in the line when the fuel pump won't kick on, the truck won't start... any other thoughts? things to check? What about the inertia switch? what would cause that to stop the pump from kicking on?

Yes it would. It's located on the floor, under the dash, in front of the passenger's feet. Peel back the top 2 inches of carpet and you'll see it. If you've checked all the wiring to the fuel pump and can't find any bad connections there then perhaps there are some bad wires in the inertia switch system.

Anyone have any pic links to the inertia switch? Most that I found did not have working picsm just red X's... Also, what should I be looking for? I will go out tonight after work and look for it, but I am not certain what to look for?

Did nothing, but it has not given a problem for a week or so. Very strange intermitten problem.

Fuel Pressure Regulator and FPR Sensor? Wouldn't I be experiencing some fuel related issues such as burning rich? and loss in mpg? I am getting 19.5 to 20.2 mpg
