Hey guys... a friend of me were talking and he makes carbonfiber hoods especially for Fords, This isn't a promotion or a for sure deal or group purchase. He told me he could make me a totallly custom top of the line carbon fiber hood, but to design it and make a mold would be pretty pricey. He said it'd cost me 10 grand to fab one up from scratch.. and He said that it'd be alot cheaper to make 20 of them at a time so I just wanted to see who'd probably be interested? There is no profit if this deal goes down, if he was to build it, The more people the lesser the price on each hood. Five hundred bucks he's asking for a Scroop/cowl induction carbon fiber hood if we can get maybe 20 people to say they want one?

EE already has one for $495. No waiting in line too.

Edit: I believe EE only has the fiberglass hood now. Carbon Fiber didn't make the production line because of lack of interest and poor quality. I'm sure John V could give us more info on this.

well if he would want to do just custom hoods period you might want to talk to him about doing one but like they toyota 4runners with the built in scoop. I just dont like the idea about carbon fiber on an explorer. Its a ford, not Rice. That is just my opinion though

haha rice? Rice is what I eat.. Carbon fiber is cool man, and it actually works.. I mean if people on the board would spend money on a fiberglass hood, why not something lighter, better and more durable like carbon fiber? And if you think a carbon fiber mod is rice, then ask yourself what mods you have? I bet you have changed ur light bulbs? And if you think fixing up a Honda which isn't really a sports car, look at Me, yourself and this forum... Explorers aren't exactly Off-road out of the box capable machines just like civics arent roadsters. We Mod for looks and performance just like people mod their honda civics. ~nuff said.

BTW. whats up with EE's webpage not posting all of their products? How am i supposed to know they sell carbon fiber hoods? I didnt even knew they sold a fiberglass cowl induction hood till last week?

actually, up until very recently, explorers were out of the box very offraod capable.......

If you paint it then it is not rice, if you leave it black then it is rice...well corn since it is american rice.

haha I think its the ricer in me, but I have a right to be a ricer, im asian dammit! I think in a alternate universe i drive a Acura integra thats actually fast with a supercharger and stuff, but I dont have a bodykit and rims. Corn sounds good.. hehe there's this guy in this Ford mustang that has Rotary pistons down my street.

Carbon fiber is much lighter and stiffer than fiberglass which is a good thing, right? You can paint it white to look like fiberglass, if that makes you happy! :D I could be interested depending on what the price comes down to.

The carbon fiber hood is not going to happen. APC was offering one but the quality was no good. You are right, it would be very expaensive to offer a high quality carbon fiber hood. I do not think to many folks would pay $1200 for one.

We do have the Cowl Hood for the 95-01 Explorers (Mountaineers) for $425 + $39 crate fee.

Sorry it is not on the web site yet. We are working on a web site upgrade. Please hang in there with us.

Corn = American rice. Now THAT is funny.

I'll take a steel hood over glass or fiber any day.

I will admit that EE hood sure is pretty.
I am saving up, but intake and Apten are inline before the hood. I'll get it one day.

I don't know if "pretty" is the word I'd use, but here's my EE hood.

Carbon fiber would have been cool, but much more expensive I'm sure.

That is one mean looking Explorer.

Pretty, cool, neat, awesome.
It's all good.

You said "I'll take a steel hood over glass or fiber any day." Then you said "I am saving up, but intake and Apten are inline before the hood. I'll get it one day." I was just wondering if in the second sentence that you were stating that you were gonna get the EE fiberglass hood..?

Yeah oaky I get ya.
I would preffer a steel hood, but since that will never happen, I eventually am gonna get the EE glass hood.
What is that saying ?
" Beggars can't be choosers ? "
