Here is the link to my tire carrier pics.

The carrier is made by Tomkin Machine. It was made to just bolt to a Jeep YJ or TJ. Since their bumpers are flat and square, a few mods had to be made. First the carrier was placed towards the right side to swing out of the way of the tailgate. In order to get the carrier level the bottom was shimmed with washers. Then all that was needed was to align the left side and drill the holes and bolt on. The stock bumper is strong and I don't have any vibration or squeeks. My plans this summer will be to weld a custom wrap a round bumper out of 2X4 or 2X6X.024" walled square steel. Then I'll weld the tire carrier to it and other things to Improve departure angle and rock crushing strength.

Thanks Brian. The carrier itself is very sturdy. The only weak link is the bumper, though I don't notice any vibration on or off road. I will either build a new bumper or renforce the current setup at a later date. The spare tire is a 33X12.50R15 Goodyear MT mounted on a 15X10 Eagle series 589. This is not a good match for the bias Claws, but at $200 ea. for the claws, it will just have to wait and hope I don't get a flat on the pavement.

Why did you put the explorer grill on your mazda? I'm just wondering why, i like the mazda frontend more, because there is last of them out there.

I didn't actually. The previous owner liked the Ford chrome and as you know Ford didn't allow Mazada to have it. I'm working on getting the mazada front end for it. I like it better myself too. So if you know anybody that wants the chrome front end, I'd gladly trade.

Hi Clark,
Is your license plate still visible with the carrier in place?
Also, is there any chance that the glass would open without opening the carrier(even if you had to modify it so the tire was lower?)
Thanks
JB

Sorry one more question,
Is that the warn combo winch mount in the photo?
thanks
JB

that looks great, nice truck too. tires and rims look awesome. where did u get the fender flares, dont see many available for the 2-doors.
Rick H.

Looking good with that carrier. I shall be looking at this myself.

Good luck!

clark91Jo,

Do you have front flashers with that Explorer bumper?

Also, do your 33s rub on those fender flares?

Thanks guys,
The fender flares are from Warn. They are the only ones that make some for the 2dr. I have the full Explorer grill, lights, and bumper so all the flashers work. Right now the tires do rub the flares but Thursday I should have the new lift installed. I had to mount the license plate on the outside of the carrier(got pulled over for it too). The glass will not open with out opening the carrier.

Tomkin Machine

I'd be more then willing to get carrier like yours although I can't find any info on the company. Can you guys help?

:)

Hi Andre,
try www.kenmtn.com
someone's trying to get a group purchase together for them on the group purchase BB

I found company but I'm still in between. I have a safari roof rack and might just put the spare and Jerry can on the rack. I was thinking about the rear carrier though since it's easily accesible and puts my truck's center of gravity lower.

Will see,

Andre,
I can't imagine trying to get a tire/wheel off the roof in the rain or snow. You're also right to worry about center of gravity.
I'm back and forth between buying one (just to get it over with) and making one (if I can find a day and some 1" nylon bushings)
JB

to hell with it. I bought it. After it arrives I'll redo it though to accomodate my jerry can as well. You're right about taking the spare off the roof. It's gonna be a 33" tire so it will take some effort and I'm not a "big" person.

See Ya!

Clark,
For starters nice truck.
Where did you get your flares and about how much did they cost?

Andre Hryn

Did you order the Kennesaw bumper and tire rack?
I'm thinking about ordering one myself, Do you mind if I inquire what accessories you ordered it with and the cost? Also, how long before it will arrive to your house?

Thanks

I did order and as a matter of fact it arrived yesterday. Right now it's just sitting in my garage. I have to take my welder out and modify this baby for my needs. I ordered plain carrier with no bumper (bumper is usually extra). Cost was about $220.00 including shipping. I will modify it though to fit a gas can on it and will move tire mount a bit to the right. I'll have to fit a license plate on it as well. That's why first thing Monday morning I'll go to the junk yard to pick a license holder off some car. That should do it. I'll bolt it to my bumper next week. Should have pictures then.

See Ya!

PS. Questions?
