hey, having to much fluid in your tranny will cause slippage right?

I didnt do this it was like that when i got the truck. I realized it was overful the otherday and it slips every now and then.

To get an idea of where it is on the stick, fluid level is supposed to be in the "thatched' area of the stick.....mine is about two inches above that! I'm gonna get a new filter and stuff and more fluid and I'll have to change it all over the weekend.

If the tranny in this truck is bad, theres gonna be one less scumbag walking this earth!

Did you check the level when it was hot? The level should be a little lower when it's cold. Maybe the previous person which filled it up added fluid while it was cold, and it now shows this high level when it's hot.

yeah i checked after a parkway ride to my mothers. The truck was running, in park, and the fluid was hot. And the fluid level was what i said. About 2 inches above where it should be on the stick.

I just really hope that changing the fluid and bringing it to normal capacity is gona fix this problem. If not ...then, i dont know.

how much does the fluid and filter change usually run for at a place like aamco or jiffylube.....im thinking of just letting them do it.

I don't trust these places. They don't always use good quality fluid, gaskets, or filters. You don't even know if they are really replacing the filter. They could strip the transmission housing if they use excessive force on the pan bolts. You are better off doing this job yourself. I would recommend installing a drain plug on the pan to make the job easier when you have to do it again.

true....

ive never done it before but i found a link to a step by step guide.
seems pretty straight forward so i guess ill give it a whirl.

It is an easy job -- one you can easily do at home in the driveway.

Just make sure that you leave the bolts across one edge of the pan in place while you remove all the others. Then, with large drain pan in place, start gently loosening that row of bolts. That will let the pan start to drop on the opposite side, allowing you to get the oil out without a huge spash. As the oil flows over the drooped edge, slowly loosen the bolts more until it is hanging quite a bit. Then, you can remove the final bolts and drain the pan the rest of the way.

I've watched too many people take baths in tranny oil... Very simple procedure, except they always forget that the pan is FULL ++.

Once off, check the bottom of the pan and the magnet for stuff that looks like gold dust or metal shavings. Any of that and you likely have bigger problems. Some amount of sludge is normal.

sounds good...thanks for the help.

I'll let you all know if i have any problems..lol.

ok i did the whole process today.
I only had to add 3 quarts though to refill to normal level. I know that i would have to do a full flush to get more of the crap fluid out, but 3 quarts doesnt seem like much....is that normal? I let it drip for a while too, at least 45 minutes.
Either way my main reason for doing this was to get the excess fluid out, since it was overfull.
