Looking at replacing ball joints on both white trucks, Sparksaflyin's and ours, both with dana 44 front axles.I noticed what appears to be 2 ways of adjusting camber.

Camber sleeve for the ball joint mount

Or what seems to be a wedge ring which sets the angle at the spindle.

Which is the best way to go about setting caster?

I would go back stock at the ball joint Jon, unless you can not get it back to spec's then you may need to do the shim along with the camber bushings.
Gives me something to call me Nephew about, He's a A.S.E Hunter front end alignment Tech :D

David said that he doesn't like the the shim rings, because they tend to wear and and loosen up and that your caster is going to be out. there should be
no reason you can't get the caster back by just replacing your ball joints

the shim would actually adjust camber only and very slightly the sleeve depending on where it is clocked can adjust camber and or caster amount depends on the sleeve. dialing it in with no gauges would be pretty difficult if you had no issues with either b4 i would just replace the sleeves with the stock type straight sleeves

ooops dangit-thead title edited. That is what I meant to ask about--camber angle. Dohp!!!

Mine seems ok, however I think Spark's truck has some negative camber going on which is causing premature tire wear. I kind thought if the correct part was installed or on hand it would make alignment easier-

Glad i am not the only who noticed that.

I've had good luck with the caster corrector bushings although the tapered washers kinda suck, they will split when you torque them down. They have been holding together though after the 9 or 10 years i've had them on there.

I couldn't get my caster in spec because I have F-150 outers on an Early Bronco axle. Apparently they don't jive together hence the need for the bushings.

I just go my 76 HP D44 all put together and it looks like it has some positive camber. Both sides are identical and lean outward when viewed from the front. Looks like a V. I measured the knuckles themselves and its them not the spindles. Both spindles are straight. Both show .5* of positive camber but when you put the 37's on it it looks way more leaned than that. I tried switching spindles side to side and of course that didn't do anything but tried anyways.

I think I will need to use those camber/caster corrector bushings. I can't find them anywhere though. Anyone know where to find them?

Thanks. The ones NAPA showed they could get where different. They had a very thin threaded section then had an insert to that that was the eccentric had a big hex style you would use to turn it. They looked kind of dumb since when the eccentric insert was in you couldn't preload the upper at all since it covered where you would use the spanner tool to turn the bushing.

Thanks I think I will have to buy some from BC so I can get this dialed in and not ruin very expensive tires.
