- 92 sport 4x4
2 months ago I had all 4 of the front end u-joints replaced in 92 X sport becuase of the grinding clunking sound. This solved the problem until this past weekend when, as soon as it snows and I use the 4x4, the noise started again. I have used the 4x4 off-road in the past two months and it works great. Now, it doesn't make any abnormal noise while in 4x4 but as soon as I put it back in 2-wheel drive it starts grinding and clunking. The remedy i've found is putting it in 4 LOW and punching it hard enough to spin all fours then putting it back in 2 HIGH and it works fine without noise. I just wish I could switch from 2-HIGH to 4-HIGH and back without problems.
I'm thinking of converting to manual hubs so I can completely free up the front drive train when not in 4x4. Then I can forget about the stupid U-Joints.
Anyone have any Ideas about the noise. It couldn't be the u-joints again so soon, could it? how about ball joints, cv joints and the rest of front drive train.
Like I said earlier, the noise is just the same as when I had the u-joints replaced the first time.
any ideas????
