Simply put, my gas meter has stopped working.
The meter seemed to be running fine, and got to E just as normal. However when I went to fill up it only filled up to 15 gals, I have a 19 gal tank. Now the meter is stuck on E. Any ideas??

in tank sending unit, drop the tank and replace, about $80

First check all the connections on top of the tank, make sure it hasnt come un plugged and the wires are not broken. If it came unplugged the fuel pump wouldnt work so my $$$$ is on the in tank sending unit.

You might be inclined to check behind the instrument cluster as well, however if the gas gauge is the only one that is broken or acting funny, then it's not likely that there is anything wrong back there.......

good luck.

Oh yeah, it's common for these to go out.
I replaced mine at 180K miles on my 88 BII.

The sending unit is integral with the fuel pump, so you'd be replacing the fuel pump as well. Another common problem is the little float itself.... It develops a hole, fills with gas and sinks, leaving your gauge on empty.
