Yea im having a lil trouble deciding on what A/T tires to get. I currently have 235/70R16 Michelin LTX-MS. I want the A/T so i can get around a lil better since my Explorer is 2wd. I also want the tire to be a little bigger than what I have now. Any suggestions on whats the best A/T tire for a 2wd.

I have to go with what corkey said. I had them on my ex before I sold it and they helped me get through 6" of snow in 2wd. They may be high but worth it and then some.

What would be a good size to get for a stock setup?

I would have to agree with Corkey, I had some on mine and were only 31's but they worked great.

255 70 16 would be a good size, just a bit bigger than what you have now,, and they would fit on the same rims,,

Yea i was thinkin about either the 245/70 or 75/16 or the 255/70 I was leanin more towards the 255/70, I just don't want it to be over kill.

You might also want to consider the General Grabber 2. These are a great all around and almost as good as the bfg a/t but at a much cheaper price. I have run these tires for the last 2 years and have nothing but good things to say about them.

Thanks for the advice, I'll check them out too

if you want a wider tire, but not a taller tire...

255/65/16's = 29.1'' tire...

when im due for tires ill be looking into these...

Well our 2002 Explorer is a 2WD, too, and I was looking for better all-weather and mud traction. On the other hand we do 95% street driving so I was looking for a tire that is not too loud for my wife.

Bought Cooper Discoverer A/T in 2004 and Cooper Discoverer AT/R in 2009 for this truck in seize 235/70-16. Tires are smooth on a black top and good in snowy winters. And because I was so satisfied I bought the same tires in 245/65-17 four our 2007 EB.

Hope this helps!

Nitto Terra Grapplers IMO trump all others.

All the tires are great options, what it really comes down to is what tread pattern you like the most.

In my opinion sense your truck is only 2wd I would go with the Bridgestone Revo 2's. They have been great on my truck. The real reason I chose these at an A/T tire is because of their weight. The Bridgestone's are easily 10-20 pounds lighter per tire than the competition which means, better performance while getting a bigger tire and also helps you maintain your gas mileage.

Sorry to jack your thread, but I had a general question regarding A/T tires and it seems there is great tire minds in here.

Can someone advise how much harsher a ride you get with A/T's compared to highway tires? I currently have highway tires( BFG Longtrails) on my '02 4x4 and they ride very nice. Very quite.

However they are not great in the snow for traction. I was considering going with A\T's, but I didnt want to hurt the ride quality too much. I do zero offroading except for snow in the winter. So if A\T's would cause a much harsher ride I would probably avoid them.

Any input much appreciated.

I started with BFG Mud Terrains which look much cooler than the All Terrains but don't clear snow worth a darn. They had quite a bit of road noise but it was worth it for the looks ;)

I moved to BFG All Terrain and never looked back. They were smooth and quieter, had excellent road manners and powered through snow like nobody's business. I'm in the same boat, so far that's been the majority of my "off roading".

I just sold my '00 Mounty a couple of months ago and it had Goodyear Wranglers (a Ford factory tire option). The all terrains rode every bit as good as the Wranglers, but with the better performance. I never noticed any extra noise from one to the other either.

I just put on 31" BFG All terrains on my EB 2 weeks ago, paired them with 15x8 black cragar soft 8's. Couldn't have been happier.

Definitely go with the BFG's.
