my weekend consisted of attempting to swap the motor on my explorer. big thanks to travis (hoop) for coming out yesterday and lending a hand. my father in law came out today and helped me.
yesterday, we got the motor all but pulled out. the exhaust manifold bolts got really messed up to the point that they would absolutely not come out. i had to wait for amy to get back from her dads house with the sawzall. i ended up cutting the HELL out of my exhaust to be able to pull the motor out.
today consisted of disconecting the torque converter and actually pulling the motor out. the hacked up exhaust ended up punching a nice hole in my a/c box... that'll be fun to fix. lol.
now the motor is sitting on the ground next to the truck.... and i have another problem. it looks like the motor that i have is from a newer explorer. it's still an OHV, but this one has a taller intake and several wiring differences. we called it a night, but there's still a lot of work to do. i've got to figure out exactly what the differences in the wiring are, how to make it work with the harness i have, OR how to make the truck harness work with the new engines harness. then install everything. after that, i get to take my loud ass truck to an exhaust shop to have a COMPLETE exhaust made for the truck. it's going to be at least another week till it's done.... maybe longer.
so my question is, does the sohc motor look much different than the ohv? the one that i bought looks identical to the one i have, but the intake looks taller and the wiring is a bit different. is it just a different year ohv?
on a good note, i sold my turbocoupe this morning. i was sad and glad to see it go.
