diesel fumes on windows!

Ok...there are several semi's that come and go all day long where I work (and park my explorer) so I have found that the fumes from the diesel is leaving my windows with a "haze" on them when I try to clean them.

I have used dawn dish soap and windex which helped a little but the haze is still there. Should I keep cleaning them with the same stuff til it goes away or is there a secret remedy someone might have out there??

It's one of those deals where the window looks clean from one angle but you walk a little to the side and then you see "THE HAZE!!" Grrrrrr!

the reason this happens is because diesel fuel is not like gasoline. diesel fuel has oil in it, so thats probably the residue thats causing the haze.

one of the best things to use to get "goopy" stuff off the window (i think this will apply here) is rubbing alcohol. to get a sticker or something like that off, i use it straight (not mixed with water.) for people who use it clean their entire window, they usually make a solution of alcohol and water - i dont know the ratio of alcohol to water, but you can give it a try. also, try using newspaper instead of paper towels - yeah youre hands will get a lil dirty, but youre windows wont have any streaks.

Try straight alcohol and a single edge razor blade. Spray the alcohol on the window and use the blade at a 30 degree angle to scrape the glass. This will clean anything off of glass. And dont worry, it wont scratch either.

Thanks guys! I did use straight alcohol and the HAZE has been vaporized. I did have to use a straight razor blaze in certain spots but not all over.

I now know how to get them cleaned....but if there were only a way to keep the diesel crap off of them?????? And no I am not parking a mile down the road......................

To keep them clean, get a car cover! or you could get some of that peel away stuff NASCAR uses!

Newspaper???? instead of a paper towel?? why? wont that put black smudges on the glass or make it dirty?

Newspaper works great on windows. It's better if you buy a roll of paper BEFORE they print on it. You can get it at most paper supply stores.

yeah, newspaper rules for windows. it gets black stuff on your hands, but your windows come out crystal clear. give it a try.

I am gonna have to say that I had my doubts about using newspapers until after hearing others say that it does work. So I had to go and try it out and sure enough....it works pretty daggone good!

lol...I am always amazed at some of the simple ideas that are out there!

rubbing alcohol, ammonia or vinegar mixed with water will work great for cleaning the glass, simple grean works good too, but too much can leave the glass "soapy"

rubbing alcohol in the windshield washer fluid is great when you have lots of buggs, or for a long road trip.

I've found that the black and white portions work the best... the colored inks tend to leave it all streaky... been using newspaper on windows since before i could drive!

Hey Fixer......the rubbing alcohol in the washer fluid idea......what will it do to paint if it gets on it?

Mine squirts it up on top a little. I have them adjusted but the squirting action just shoots it everywhere! I try not to even use it unless I have to.
