Getting the car in and out of park, into drive, can be difficult and things seem to be kind of "out of line". I'm used to it but it isn't right. The other day it was parked in the driveway, turned off, on a slight incline away from the house, getting something out of the hatch area, kind of leaning on the bumper with my legs enough to cause a little motion, and something gave, it kind of clicked and backed up an inch or two toward me, then caught again. Scared me and I'm assuming it has something to do with the shift lever movement.

Any suggestions would be appreciated? Common problem?

Thanks folks

Quick question, what year vehicle is this?

I ask because your profile says 1999, but you posted this in the 2002-2005 section.

As for the shifter, it sounds like the shifter cable has stretched and when you think you've put it in Park, its actually more in Reverse (which should be right beside Park) -- be careful, set your parking brake.

It's a 2002 4.6L XLT. When I first joined, I had the 99...guess I need to update that.

Anytime/anywhere, same symptoms.

My high school? Little town of Pomona.

Thanks for the feedback. Are there any good posts here on that procedure? I'm guessing my Haynes may not have that kind of detail but will look shortly.

Regarding Shawnee, abode at K7 and Johnson Drive.
