Dimmer Switch

I got my new dimmer switch today. I installed it and tested it out. Turning the switch dimmed the lights. I turned it back and forth for a few seconds, and then it stopped working. This NEW switch is now just like my old one. To get my gauge lights to even come on I have to turn the switch to the left, just before the click to turn on the dome lights. Why is my X killing my dimmer switches?

Hrm. maybe it sucks too much juice through your switch....

I've got relays wired up to keep that from happening...
