I dont know if this has already been posted but here goes. Did you guys know that the 2003 and up Explorers with the Chrome 17" wheels are just plastic covers. I was cleaning the wheels on my demo at work the other day and noticed that the Chrome Explorer wheels are just regular wheels with chrome plastic wheel skins over them. If you put you finger around to the inside you can feel the plastic lip all the way around the wheel.

Talk about CHEAP :fire:

Yea, Chevy started that trend a few years ago. Typical manufacturers trying to save a buck so they can widen their pofit margin.

No way! That can't be true. I mean... wow! That's beyond cheap... that's cheating!

Chrysler does the same with the 300M and a few others too

My 99 XLS has the same thing. XLS models came with either aluminum or steel 15 inch wheels. The steel ones had the chrome wheel skins to make them seem nicer.

ahh...reinventing the hubcab

yeah thats why i never liked fords chrome wheels..... always got aluminum ones or the really ****ty ones i was going to replace anyways

It could be WORSE......

Atleast it's not a 15" steel rim, and a 17" wanna-be hubcap

They actually DO make those things, I saw some of those oversize hubcaps on the shelf the other day at CSK, right next to the hubcap spinners..... LOL

at least then if you bust up a rim, its cheaper to replace :D
