Does baking soda remove paint?

I watch a show on tv and it looked like they were spraying baking soda to remove the paint?
 












That looks like good stuff but its probably expensive.
 






I saw them use baking soda on a car once. It is heavier grit than normal baking soda. They buy it in the same bags as like grass seed or mulch. I believe the guy said they go through like 100 bags of the stuff for a full car. So yeah, it is pretty expensive. But it does work, and well at that!

EDIT: Be sure not to touch the stuff with your bare hands. Its supposidly like glass and will cut you!
