ok i have a 2004 4x4 4-door explorer and i took it to the 4x4 shop here in town to see what my options are for a lift and some tires

i originally thought i was going to beable to AAL but unfortunatly my car is running springs on all 4 wheels and as far as i can tell unless they are hidden or its something ive never seen before, i dont have them

the guy told me that there isnt a way i can lift my car for bigger tires without doing an axle swap or completly changing my driveshaft placement

is this guy an idiot or is he correct

also if someone could point me in the direction of a good lift for a 2004 explorer that would be awesome

thanks

He is basically correct as of now there are no lifts for 02-up four doors. And No you do not have leaf springs so no add a leaf is available.

so pretty much im limited to getting a bigger tire to get more ground clearance, do you think i can fit 31's?

Your truck has IFS and IRS
There is a way to lift the suspension, not sure if a kit is available or not.
The new trucks are completely different then the previous generation.

Someone(again I forget who) fit 285/75R16s on his stock one. I believe those are 33s.

you can also put a body lift on it...

I think somewhere on the forum Rick posted a picture of a 3rd gen. with a much larger tire size

BenS put worn down 33's on his stock. A body lift is one option, but you'd probably have to fab bumper brackets.

That was a race truck with prototype shocks that aren't available to the public.

I did, however, find this today. http://www.truckn-store.com/product.asp?returnURL=default.asp&ID=87651 About halfway down there's a prototype lift for 3rd gen. Explorers. I doubt it'll ever get made but, it's a start. EDIT: Actually, I looked at it again, and you can buy it. Could be already made. Might wanna call them up and see if it's an actual product or just a prototype preorder type thing.

Man, I would love to have a prototype suspension system on my truck. I would call them or contact them some way and get the information on the lift kit. There's probably a lot of parts modifications.

what are my options on the body lift, just normal coil spacers?

A body lift lifts the body and the body only. You don't mess with any suspension components.

correct me if im wrong but i thought that you did a body lift using add-a-leafs

since i dont have any, how is this done?

ok this guy is eitehr joking or a complete moron....

Yeah not too sure where he is getting his info.
add-a-leaf = suspension
coil spacer = suspension
body lift = lift body off frame (no suspension) This is basically putting hockey puck looking things between the frame and the body. the suspension is not lifted from the ground at all.
Sounds like you need to do some research on what your (limited) options are.

Man, don't be so harsh. A body lift consists of putting spacers on the body mounts to lift the body off the frame. The most common size of spacer is 1", 2" or 3". The larger the spacer, the more issues you face such as having to extend linkages, grounding straps, lowering your radiator, steering, etc. The benefit is this will allow you to have more room to run a larger tire and is probably your best work around suspension lift limitations. If you do a body lift, you're gonna be a pioneer of the 3rd gens here.

A bit of flaming is good IMO. Keeps people from posting so many redundant questions, and will get them to research.
