Hi guys,
I have a 1999 explorer. My door ajar light and interior and lights under the door mirrors will not turn off....
When I pull fuse number 26 they go out.
Any ideas why the lights stay on? I'm guessing maybe a switch on the doors is bad? Or is there a relay that controls these in addition to the fuse?

is your hatch, or hatch glass fully latched? i have had that happen a few times.

Spray some WD-40 in your door plungers and shut the doors hard about 10-12 times sometimes they stick.

With the key turned to the on position, open the doors one by one. A working door switch will make an audible "ding" sound when opened. The door which does not ding has a bad switch. Try the wd 40 trick to it first--

You can just disconnect the switch for now, this will eliminate the "door ajar" and dome light until you get a new door latch.

bingo.

this is a problem affecting most Ford cars and trucks

in the old days, there used to be a long, thin post that would push down when you shut the door to tell the car that the doors were shut (you remember playing these as a kid)

That switch is now inside the front door frame where that black rail slides in and out of the frame.
