So I have my 1992 explorer 4 door and a couple of the exterior door handles are broken and they're all faded and I was just wondering if the second Gen metal handles would bolt right in. I'd much rather have the metal than the plastic but wanna know before I buy then. Any help would be much appreciated

Should... I know the body shells are 'allllllmost' identical with things like the shape of the sheet metal around the tail lights being the few differences. The front clips are very different.

Did you try this? Sounds like a great idea to me

Yes I did try it in in the process one door at a time. They aren't a perfect match. The holes are the same distance apart but on the second Gen door handles they have little tabs that have to be cut off And the holes in the doors on the first Gen need a little trimming in order to fit the mechanism. But Ive done one front and one rear and they feel so much better than the old plastic ones.

Awesome I think I'll do it too. Too bad we can't get some metal inner handles too.

If possible maybe you could do a write up with pics , that would be very helpful to a lot of us .
