Anyone have any experience with the 3M door protector?

The slightly larger size of this Explorer (compared to my '04) means that it's more likely to ding my wife's car in the garage and I was looking for something to help protect both vehicles.

I can only assume that by the number of members (169) that have viewed this thread and not commented, that no one so far has had any experience with the product, me included.
I guess if you really want to be safe while parked in the garage and feel like living on the edge, tell your wife to leave her vehicle outside.

No . . it's not that big of a problem, but we recently had a baby, and getting him into the car seat does require that both vehicles be parked in an exact position so that the door can fully open.

I may take a chance and try this. Seems like it's the same type of material that 3M uses as a car bra . . . should be removable if I don't like it.

One thing about this car, the back doors are enormous. Which is kind of strange, because there really isn't that much room in the back seat. I think Ford sacraficed some back seat room to fit a 3rd row. Would like a little more room so that my 2.5 year old isn't constantly kicking the back of my seat.

Our 2.75 year old (lol) has recently discovered that his legs can now reach the backs of the front seats. He does pretty well, but when he gets tired and fussy, he turns into a little devil. It is our hope that ordering the buckets in the second row will give us that little bit of room to keep him out of reach, at least for a little bit longer!

As for the doors being huge, our garage is bordering on uselessly narrow. I remember as a kid garages always having plenty of room. What happened?

I can only assume that this is the same material used for the clear bra that is being offered at dealerships. I had this installed on the front of the hood, front part of the fenders, back of the mirrors, under the door handles and on the outer edge of the doors. It seems like it will work for keeping paint transfers from happening if I open the door into another car.

Bought and installed about 2 months ago. So far so good. Hardly noticable.
Have to get right on top of it to see it. Had one minor problem thought. On Left side rear door, couldn't get it to lay flat at bottom. Maybe 1/4 inch has alittle bubble in it. Would definitely recommend.

I have used this product with good results. Before you buy go on ebay and search door edge film. There are many listings for this product and several include the official 3M installation video that you can view. Not difficult to install, but you need to make sure the door is perfectly clean and free of any lint or dust as it will show under the film. If you don't like the results, you can always remove since this is the same film that 3M is selling for paint protection. Dealers in my area have this installed on new cars to pad profit and charge about $75 per car.

Yeah, wish the 2nd row could be shifted back when 3rd row seats are not in use. Ford, if you're monitoring please add that to the suggestion box.

We are a little off topic here but my previous Highlander was 9" shorter, had a 3rd row seat AND more leg room for the 2nd row.

Wanted to update the group on the 3M door protector product linked above.

I installed it a few weeks ago and have been really happy with it. It was easy to install (about 10min per door), and is really unnoticeable unless you're really looking for it. The only downside is that for the Explorer back doors, there's not really a "top" of the door. For me, I just used enough material to do the bottom 2-3 feet, since that's all that would really come in contact with anything else.

It makes a big difference in my garage. I can now put the baby in the carseat, without worrying about whether the door is hitting my wife's car. You still wouldn't want to slam the door obviously, but if it's just leaning against the other door, this will easily protect both.

I'll keep an eye out for peeling or discoloration, but so far it's exactly what I needed.

...they take a look at it, then suddenly want to defeat it, move it out of the way, wack yer car real good, then move it back, covering damage....(or not)

Hello all! New to the site. I just picked up my 14' Sport on Thursday and wanted to pick up some door edge guards. I have searched all over the Internet and haven't had much luck. I can find them for older models but not the newer models. Do any of you happen to know if any are available that would fit a 13' or a 14'? Thanks in advance.
