Searched, didn't find anything that looked specifically like my issue.

Just recently, my driver's door lock doesn't want to unlock electrically.

I don't have the issue with a key, and I don't have an issue opening the door from the inside. It seems to lock just fine.

In order to get it to unlock, though, via the keyless or switch, I have to hit unlock about 5 or 6 times to get it to jocky up to the unlocked position.

I'm assuming a solenoid or something has gone out? Anyone experience this issue, and know what part I need to look for?

sounds like a bad door lock actuator. available at most parts stores, or really cheap on ebay. its something you can easily do yourself.

Cool beans. Any major hang-ups/special considerations for popping the door panels? I haven't had them off in the 6 years I've owned this beast.

I'd imagine they're pretty straight-forward, but never hurts to double-check.

OK, now I have an issue with the key.

This is lame. I just went outside to get into it, and used the key (like I've been doing for the past few days, since this situation cropped up, and now the lock is binding, and won't unlock.

Still an issue with the actuator?

its is more likely you have a mechanical problem... hint search on "door spring", tons of posts.

LMAO!

EXACT same thing happened to me this morning. Completely out of the blue. I popped the door off and poked around without success. I then tried to use my key and the lock was stiff and wouldn't budge. I do treat it with that graphite lock lubricant stuff now and again, but it had been a while. Of course our Explorers are prone to seized locks due to "remote reliance". Always a good idea to use a key now and again, peeps!

Anyhow, a few more squirts of lube and the key started working the lock. The lock still wasn't popping up right so I gave up, expecting to need a new actuator (still might). I put the door back together and now it's working right.....about 98% of the time. Still some sticking, but I think the graphite did the trick and still is. I doused it good. Almost too good as it was leaking out the bottom of my door later. DOH!

Only time will tell if this is merely a band-aid. I sense it might be. :(

You only need a screwdriver and one of these to get in there if need be. Try my "fix" above and see if it helps before you tear the door apart.
