Drivers Rear Door won't open

The small door on the drivers side will not open. I can't even figure out how to get the darn door panel off. I have heard that this is often a cable problem. Anybody know if this can be repaired by removing the door handle at the side of the door.

This plate is installed with rivets and have to be drilled out BUT they can you get at the cable ends:rangerred:

this is the first 4 door ranger that i have owned. AndI do not know how to remove door panels.
But I know that all extrended cabs were not 4 doors. is it possible that yours is a 3 door model? And again showing my ignorance, doe the 3 door model open on driversside or passenger side?
