Hello all:

My 2002 Ford Explorer 4.0 V6 weeps a bit of oil, out of the backside of the driver's side valve cover gasket, towards the firewall. I have had both valve cover gaskets replaced twice, by my normal mechanic and I replaced the PCV valve myself, as I was reading this could be the problem too. Does anyone know what the problem could be, it's kind of getting annoying smelling oil once in a while.

If the surface isn’t properly cleaned, and there’s old material stuck to it, it will leak. Or if there’s a nick in the aluminum just big enough.

If you can pinpoint the exact spot, put some black rtv sealant in the spot with a new gasket.

Look at the valve cover as well. Does it have a crack?
