So I've been trying to pinpoint where this chirping noise in the rear of my car is coming from. I took it to a mechanic and upon looking at the brakes he said everything looked fine. I didnt have him look at the ebrakes because I didnt want to pay labor when I can look at them. I was wondering if it is safe to drive (just around the neighborhood) with the parking brake shoes and hardware completely off. I want to see if the chirping goes away because then I will know it is the parking brake and I will rebuild it. Sorry if this is a stupid question. I figure it will be ok to drive without it, but I want to be POSITIVE! Thanks

it will be fine. I am doing it currently on one side due to a messed up bracket.

Thanks for the quick response. This noise is driving me nuts! I'll go home and pull all the parking brake stuff off and see if thats the culprit. Thanks again
