ok i finally got my lift on (5.5 skyjacker) and took the ex down and had it alligned now im getting a lot of bumpsteer even with the drop pitman that i took off of the ranger my lift came off of. is this normal for lifted ex's and if not does anyone have any pictures of there steering that doesn't have bumpsteer with a lift im trying to figure out if there is a diferent piman for ex's and rangers because the ranger didn't have this problem.

this is the explorer drop pitman arm, it is shown on my truck with the solid axle swap, but nothing changed on the arm. I do recall when I installed this it was much wider and beefier at the top, I needed to remove the steering box from the frame to get it on.

the two truck are identical from what I know, so it should drive the same.

good luck.

that looks to be the same amount of drop that i put on. do all the ttb's have bumpsteer with a lift ?? i didn't notice it in the ranger but i didn't drive it much either so i don't remember if it had any at all.

I have Duff 2.5" springs + f-150 spacers and use a dropped pitman arm (superlift I belive.. looks like the one pictured above)..

I get no bumpsteer.. Before the dropped arm I definatly had lots of bump steer..

With the droped arm the steering no longer looks like an inverted Y.. its back to an inverted T.

Is the steering linkage down flat (horizontal)?, If it's up at an angle, you likely need a bigger drop pitman arm, yes.

The pitman arm is not Ranger/Explorer application-specific, it's dictated (or should be dictated) by how much lift you have.

With 5½" of lift, you should use the Skyjacker pt# FA600 arm.

do you have any pics of the FA600 pitman arm the one i have looks just like the one in the post above and if i could post pics on here i would.

Been there before. Let me tell you, I just replaced the entire front end in my Un-Limited. Lifted it using the Skyjacker kit and used Superlift Superunner steering set-up with dropped pitman arm, new shocks, springs etc... and still, I get a lot of bump steer at anything over 50 mph. It's scary sometimes when it starts swaying... like it's gonna tip over on it's side.

Looks like I'll need to either SAS it or install sway bar back.

How much lift? Are the tierods horizontal at ride height? (this same thing applies on the Superrunner kit, too)

I've got 6" Skyjacker stage II kit installed... I have no idea why it keeps swaying... it's a second Explorer that I have lifted this way and I did have the same problem with the first one.

It's because the steering geometry is still incorrect.
6" is too much lift for the Superrunner (I don't care what Stupidlift says  ). That kit is only good up to about 4" (2.5-3" ideally).

Your steering centerlink likely needs to come down a good 2-3 inches in order to put the tirerod's swing more in phase with the beams (I modified one here) The idlerarm and it's bracket probably could use some beefing up to better handle the leverage put on it as well.

The tierods have to be nearly level like this:
