Hello All,

Next week i am gettig an exhaust put on my 98 sohc, and i can either go with a dual in dual out muffler with 2 1/4 inch pipe or i can go with a dual in single out with 2.5 inch pipe. Would the duals be two much for my truck? Which would give the best sound and which would be the best performance?

thanks

sorry, just a bump, would really like some opinions on this. Exhaust goes on in less than a week

Well, as a shadetree mechanic only, either set up should perform about the same. Dual in dual out with a cross over would sound the best, in my opinion. What muffler are you thinking of using?:salute:

SOHCs lose low end torque with anything more than a single 2.5" outlet. Dont do duals on these trucks unless you dont care about low end power. I had dual 2.25" pipes and went to a single 2.5" out and it was a big diff.

im going to go with a vortex muffler from cherrybomb. Ive heard a few and they sound good. Im prolly gonna go single by the sounds of it as i haul a boat alot with my x. Would love duals, but if they are as bad as everyone makes them out to be, i dont think they are for me.

thanks guys for the info.

hey i have a 97 explorer and it has dual in and out and it sounds awsome. i went with magnaflow and its tricky getting it to work but they went inbetween the leave springs and the fram and over the pumkin and other than a few minor adjustments it has worked out well so i would say its a go and give it a try

If you search on it just about everyone will say do not get a dual exhaust if you like having low end torque. It's said even the pick up trucks that get dual exhaust loose low end but they have so much that the loss isn't noticed.

I disagree with this statement. When my truck was stock and full compliment of bolt on's it dynoed out with the highest average torque. I wasn't just peaky neither as previously stated the average torque was excellent.

so, is the loss in low end torque noticeblae or not? I dont know if you guys mean that when you loose low end torque it is devestating or if it is something that only shows on the dyno as a minor loss? Would someone please explain this? also, will the dual system be better over the stock system?

Do side exit duals, no spare tire access problems, awesome sound, IMO {need small red Cherry Bombs IMO}

how would there be a difference in back pressure or anything for that matter after the muffler? Why couldnt you go single in dual out? Curious as im going for the duals out the back soon too

FYI, 99 4.0's are dual in/single out mufflers stock.

Jah, I didnt quite understand your statement. You said when your truck was fully stock is when it had full torque? I didnt get it
