So, I have a chance to grab a 92 Explorer Eddie Bauer with 139000 miles, for next to nothing.

It's been sitting for about two year, but cranked right up with a good battery.

Reverse works, seems to engage normally. Drive and all forward gears do NOT work. Manual first does not work.
There is a very minor drop in idle RPM when put into the forward but not working gears.
Trans currently has too much fluid in it from the last person who messed with it.It wass parked because of this trans problem.

Anyone got any thoughts ? I'd love for this to be governor or modulator that I can change easily. Even a valve body would be fine with me, I've done one in a 5R55E.

I appreciate any input !

Hello

What trany do you have in it. I think it an A4ld if auto. Read the stickys on transmission in the transmission section. It helped me a lot to fix my problems.

Well I didn't have a guage handy so I just pulled the pan off for a look and changed the filter.
It wass like panning for gold, or silver in this case - lots of very fine particles, but not steel because it was on the magnet.

I didn't see any strange gasket stuff going on at the valve body edges, so I suspect a hard part somewhere has failed.
I tried reading my ATSG book for the 5R55E which I bought whilst playing with my Ranger but it isn't aimed at the A4LD so the diagnostics are all wrong.

Anyone have an A4LD book they want to get rid of really cheap ? I know they're not much anyway, but I am unemployed at the moment so I can't running around spending too much money for an unknown return.
I'd love to tear this thing down though, I've never been deeper than a valve body and there certainly seems to be enough broken A4LD/5R models around for it be worth knowing how to fix them...

The transmission section has a sticky called the A4LD valve body rebuild diary. Check the pressure with a 0 -300 PSI gauge to see if it's low in drive but normal in reverse.
