my favorite explorer would be plain like 98x's or mine and would have your rims and a blown v8. ideally it would also be a sport, but it would have the chrome bumpers like our four doors, except for the side piece from the limited like i have, and the chrome billet grille.

but if i could do anything i wanted i would make a slightly longer than sport "coupe" 2 door explorer out of mine and use that.

there was thread about that truck being stolen a little while ago. supposedly at gun point...

question on the EE (or any other) aftermarket airdam- will it clear parking blocks? i plan on a 'dam this winter with my paint upgrade, and i need to know if it will go over parking blocks or not. i know this will depend on tire height/how much you are lowered, but i am running same 2" drop and tires as Chris/Drew. any input?

BTW- this wouldnt be an issue, but my wife drives the X sometimes and has a habit of pulling all the way up on a parking block until the tires hit. this is a habit that i do not ever think she will break, and i dont want to drop $200 and paint on a new 'dam only to have her rip it off the first time she drives it...

it has a tendency to be about two cm higher than most parking blocks. lol. i've never really scratched it up or ruined it but i have bent it pretty good a couple of times only to have it snap back into place after i backed off of the offending cement. chances are good that your wife will find a way to break it if she drives it. i know my girlfriend, for example, is on her third stock air dam for her z24, and she keeps smashing it even though its HER car and she should know better (but it does hang down an inch or so lower than my x's) and isn't this the same wife who smashed your rear tailgate in the driveway or something like that?

yes, this is the same wife that backed my X into my early bronc in our own driveway. because of this, she is limited to "only as a last resort" driver of my X:p . actually, this was the only accident she has ever had, and is usually a decent driver. but, she is notorious for running up on parking blocks until the tires hit, and has done some minor damage to her 'yota MR2. even knowing that it tears **** up, she STILL does it. this is why im wondering about the upgraded airdam. if there is a chance that it will ever hit a higher than normal block, she will hit it. and no, she will not "nudge" it and back off leaving minor scrathes. im sure she will run all of the way up on it:rolleyes: .

I stay away from the parking blocks. It's like a habbit now. I pull in slow and stop before I get close to the block or curb. The regular blocks are not a problem but if there is a 6" or 8" curb, like in front of a building, that will cause some problems. I spent too much money on the front of that truck, so I am really cautious.

I kinda like the look of the stock "airdam" body color, but the EE airdam looks good too- if you got the cash, I say go for it :D . Anyway, I have got a (hopefully semi-related) question for you guys....I have the two-tone color scheme, with white upper body and lower 1/3 of doors gray. I was gonna paint the ugly-brownish/gray plastic stuff on the bumpers white (like expo5.0), but they realized it might not flow too well the the gray doors....(is this making sense??). I really want to get rid of the gray plastic look on the front and rear bumpers along with the lower stock "airdam", but I want it to look ok (obviously). suggestions please....

Is it the actual door that is painted grey or is it a layer of plastic on the doors that can be taken off?

Hartman, are you planning on getting the PIAAs?

Actually I'm not too sure on that 98fordx24....I'm kinda leaning toward the door being painted, but since the X is in the shop I cant go look right now. I am pretty sure it is paint actually, because I thought about shaving the side moldings but then realized it would look horrendous without a little transition for gray to white...

No way. Too expensive for the result IMO.

I called EE and they said that their dam would not fit the 01+ Sports.

Keep your eyes open on eBay.

has anyone seen the EE airdam on a sport?

actually, i think i might be the only one on this thread who doesnt like the air dam, heh. im just not a fan of it, it makes it look too "ground effect-like", and i HATE ground effects, they always look awful; ground effects are what people, who want to lower their truck, but dont actually want to lower it, put on.

hartman, i say dont do it; too expensive anyway, by the time you buy it, and have it painted, forget it. if you wanna do something cool up front, maybe consider that "airdam" from performance products, which is basically just that plastic valence piece at the bottom of the bumper, but has a spot for 2 driving/fog lights in it. that, also, is really expensive, but its kinda neat - much better than an airdam. i can think of 6 million other ways to spend that kind of cash than on an airdam, but thats just me

We're talking about an Explorer, you have to make it look lower some how :p . But seriously, I think I am going to get one but not now, maybe in a few months. For those of you who have this dam, how much did it cost to get it painted? I'm thinking $75-100?

I had mine painted the same time I had the running boards, bumper trim, and quarter panel trim painted. Cost me $300 total.

Yes. I think this is blackdiamonds truck. That hood blister is going to be my next mod. I'm not going to get it from EE tho.
