anyone ever replace a 1st gen x back hatch or window with an electric one (window) that you can control from the ****pit? probably a long shot but i think it would be neat for summer time driving.

With large amounts of $$$$$ any thing is possible.....

You for sure wouldn't be able to convert it to one that rolled down, but you could possibly put in a linear actuator that flipped the window up. However, you'd have to do it in such a way as to not interfere with operation of the hatch. It would require a bunch of custom brackets to be made and some serious engineering.

The only problem is with the rear window open whilst driving you will pull in exhaust fumes. Not a good idea and could be very dangerous. Just my 2c worth.

I have been playing with the idea of putting power window motor(s) on the rear glass to lift it out. I hadn't even thought of the exhaust thing. I don't think that should be much a a problem if the pipe is run out the side, but not sure if run out the rear. There have been plenty of other SUVs made that allowed the window to go down.

Howard does have a point. I've had to drive with the rear window open a few times and you can smell exhaust inside. Same in other vehicles such as the 4Runner, dunno how that was allowed by law.

The exhaust is set up in such a way that fumes aren't pulled into the vehicle on the 4Runner.

Intresting this has come up.

I am thinking about putting electric to my
vent windows ( I have a sport )

Lots of mini-vans have this feature so it should not be too difficult.

I know this has nothing to do with the origonal post, but
take it for what it is worth.

If you've ever looked underneath the hatch panel, you really see how much work it would take. All the rods and such for the lock mechanism and the handle would have to be moved. Practically all of the metal inside that provides structural support for the hatch would have to be cut out so that the window could fit down inside. Even if you worked all that out, you'd have to find a way to mount a motor inside there to raise and lower the window. Then you'd have to do some work with the rubber, etc. around the opening to make it water tight.

BIG PROJECT.

Monmix,
I already researched this and it would be a fairly involved project. Do a search for "jump windows".

i knew this was almost impossible but ya never know with you guys. the back window flipping up, i never thought about that. atleast that sounds possible. if anyone does it please fill me in its one mod id definatly like to do.
