We tore apart an 8.8 out of a 98 explorer to reweld spring mounts and repaint it. It has the drum-in-hat emergency brakes. There are 2 pairs of galvanized pieces which actuate the shoes when the cable pulls on them. (one pair is stamped "L" and the other "R"). The only way we can fit it back together is if the "R" pair is installed on the drivers' side. Doesnt make sense, since the caliper mounts are both marked "L".

Should the L be R and where does that dust seal go since it also appears to be interfering with the installation process.

Also, how the hell do you manage to install that spring that is on the backside of the pads, it took some work to get it off and I was thinking at the time "this won't be easy to get back on"

Thanks, Kyle

I need to replace my e-brake pads. When I looked in my chiltons manual it showed the axle shaft taken out. I hope I dont need to do that just to replace e-brake pads. Any suggestions?

I have the haynes manual and i cant find a mention of the parking break at all. Does the chiltons have an assembly diagram, if so can someone scan it for me. I can definetly see where taking the shaft out would make it easier.

Kyle
