Ok a couple of months ago I went out an picked up one of those code readers. I read through the book to see if there was anything to do the X before I began. so I started the first test. engine off key on. both codes I get are 11 ad 11 so everything is fine there. step 2 is key on engine on now this is were it gets tricky for me. after i get the engine ID code I push the brake down and turn the wheel and I get code 77 so I did some more reading and on the net some show the code77 as a goose code where i need to hit the gas 1/2 way down and release along with the turning of the wheel and the brake. ive tried each one of them in numerous different orders and than by ommitting one step but using the others. and regardless of what I do I continue to get code 77 well I tried none of those steps and i get code 77 along with code 74 and 74 says it is a brake on/off switch so i know i have to do the brake on/off deal but the other two im not sure of. there is another one for overdrive to turn the switch on than off but my overdrive isnt a selection like that im either in overdrive or i am not no fancy buttons to select it with. but anyways has anyone encountered this problem or know of any other hoops i have to jump through to get code 77 to go away and allow the rest of the codes to come out. this is about as frustrating as trying to change out that damn fuel filter which by the way is still waiting to be canged out.
any helpp would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Mike

Mike,

The "goose" needs to be a wide open throttle application - just as quick as you can, stab the gas to the floor and let it up immediately. This is a dyamic response test.... the ECM is self-testing the TPS, knock sensor, EGR and a couple more that I forget.

Two things to remember when doing the KOER test - before initiating the self test, run the motor at about 2000 rpm to warm up the O2 sensor (failing to do this could result in a false O2 code) and be sure ALL the accessories are turned off. If the AC is energize during the self test a code 67 (IIRC) will set.

What brand code reader did you buy, I'm looking for a good one.
