i searched on the forum for recommendations but didn’t see any for a first generation.

So I have a 93 Eddie Bauer (100k miles) I bought 3 months ago and the coolant is running low. I want to take it to the mechanic and have it drained and replaced with new coolant so I can just add it myself from now on. Which coolant is best to use? Currently the coolant inside is green colored.

Stick with green, buy whichever brand you like, mix it 50/50 with water if it’s not already a premix, good to go.

On older vehicles, it’s not that crucial. I’ve been using the Walmart brand coolant for years.

I reuse old coolant... filtered through a T shirt or something. I always check the freeze temp but coolant is coolant is coolant to me at least in older vehicles. Green is fine, Walmart coolant is yellow, FYI but it can be mixed with green.

Other colors/types can sure be used too but the cooling system has to be totally flushed out. I only mention this because it was a "thing" for a while to use GM Dexcool... and the Chevy guys were draining out their Dexcool in favor of good old green... lol

Huh, my Walmart coolant is green, and has been for the twenty years I’ve been buying it.

Really? That's odd. It's been yellow here for many years. I do buy the full strength stuff and mix it though... are you buying the 50/50?
