Check this out guys- I have heard from a mechanic friend who swears that flushing the engine with diesal oil is much better then using heavy duty flushes.
He has told me that you can leave it in for around 200 miles, then do an oil change for the proper stuff and filter change.
Has anyone done this.....It kinda makes sense to me!

I have used kerosene / parafin as an engine flush several years ago. I think quite a lot was used (maybe 2 litres?) but I didn't drive with it and changed the oil and filter a couple of times afterwards. It was popular on the Ford Probe forum at the time.

Wonder how I'll get the diesel into the LPG tank, could prove tricky

If you do regular maintainence on your vehicle (changing oil every 3-5K miles) and drive it until it reaches opperating tempature often, you will never need to do an engine flush. The flush is designed to break down and remove broken down solidified oil, unless you bought a used vehicle that was neglected or don't drive your explorer far enough to get it to warm up you will not have a problem with sludge. I do recomend cleaning the intake (sea foam or other type of intake system cleaner) every 30-40K miles, to remove any carbon or oil build up in the intake, but an engine oil flush is a waste of money.

Now if you do have an older OHV 4.0L with noisy lifters you can try running a quart of ATF in the oil to try and clean the lifters. Add the oil and let the engine idle for 30-45 minutes, then change the oil. If there is a chance of the lifters cleaning out the tranny fluid will do as good of a job as any engine flush and likely cost a lot less.

I heard chip fat works pretty well too.:p::D

Thats good advice- here in the UK we have a tendency to follow the makers service intervals that is around 10K oil change in general, but I do know many of us here do it earlier.........but almost certain not at 5K!
I was just surprised at the mechanic mate telling me that, I guess its from the old days when oil was not like todays hi tech stuff and petrol had no cleaning agents etc!
I think if you use a good synthetic around 7-8k is fine for an oil change,we have 2 cars in my househould, (it was tought getting them both in the front door)! So I only use my Ex for gigs and work around 4 times a week, the rest of the time we are iin the wifes, a Seat Ibiza heap of crap but she likes it and it saves a fortune in petrol whilst it costs so much here!
