Looking to swap the engine in our 1996 explorer XLT 4.0 V6 to a 1996 V8 5.0. Its the same year, i dont know if that makes any difference. What all would need to be modified to accomodate the larger engine? Anything with pulleys, fuel system, headers. We have performance exhaust already on the vehicle with the v6. So what all would we need to change? anything with ecu like getting it flashed?

Thanks for your help!

everything from the fan to the driveshaft must be swapped over, you can keep your dash, heater box, and steering!!

The v8 drivetrain is different, wiring, computer, transmission, transfer case, mounts, cooling, ac, etc

best bet is to get the entire 96 donor

Ya like he said there is a big diffrents and alot of work to be be done to do this project. Its not something you do in a weekend its gona take alot of time and modificastions.

actually with both trucks side by side this is the type of conversion that you can do in a weekend, since the 96 was avail with the 5.0L, if you can bolt in a engine and trans in a day you can have it running SUN night :)
