Engine swap

Alright so I have a 2000 Ford Explorer xls 5 speed that has a blown head. I found a mechanic willing to do an engine swap for $1200 but I’m not sure what engine I would go for or even if it’s worth it. And help would be greatly appreciated.

When I did my SOHC, I bought an engine out of a wrecked 2010 Ranger and swapped the Explorer parts over to the long block. Engine had 36k and was $1000 from LKQ.

Is your current engine high mileage? Worth fixing maybe?

I have 214,000 miles so it is probably do

a 2000 xls with a 5 speed is likely the OHV 4.0 pushrod engine, not the sohc?

If so finding an engine can be more difficult, but they are still out there

What does $1200 include? I charge $500-600 to remove and replace a 4.0 engine, plus parts (gaskets, fluids and filters)
Good time to also do your clutch, while the engine is out
