97' 4.0 sohc engine swap

I have a 97' ford explorer with 128,000 miles on it....I blew a head gasket and I know you have to pull the motor to pull the heads. So I found a 2000' motor...same engine 4.0 sohc with 90,000 miles on it, for about the same price as rebuilt heads.

My question is... is this an exact bolt in engine, or are some modifications necessary to make this swap work ???

Thanks for your time, GoFastGreek

no mods, but you will need to swap all your sensors, wire harness, fuel rails, and upper intake from you 98 motor on to your 2000 motor.

I know you have to pull the motor to pull the heads.

Huh?

I took the what you would call the driver's side head off my '97 SOHC without removing the engine.
I didn't take the other head off but there didn't seem to be any impedement.
