I am wanting to install an eq I had to my 94 factory hu. I was told by some audio techs around here that I have to buy an aftermarket HU to do this, they said it won't hook up and if I could rig it then I would get tons of interferience.
Can anyone tell me if this is true or if they are just trying to sell me a hu?
Thanks
Blake

It would be possible with a lot of work, but its not worth it. Just save up and get a new headunit, that makes a lot of difference in the sound. Also if you got a new headunit then there would be a place to put the eq by the headunit.

Ok so I have to have a new hu but I don't understand this part?

The factory HU is a double DIN unit, an aftermarket HU can be a single DIN and then add a single DIN eq.

question

I read somewhere that you can tap into the rear speaker lines with a RCA convertor and run that to the EQ. Then on the HU Fade the sound all the way to the Rear. Then use the EQ to fade front-rear? Im about to do that myself. Is this going to cause some noise? My plans are to get a new HU but it will be later on down the road. Will this work for now?
Thanks

You have a 94, so you have a single DIN, the 95+ years had double din's. You would still have to put the EQ somewhere under the dash or in your ash tray slot. The problem you are running into is most EQ's have RCA inputs, where your HU runs stereo level wires. Considering the cost, most HU's nowadays can handle anything you want to do. I have a EQ installed, and it actually conteracts some of the features my HU will do, had I done my research I would have just bought the HU.

Sorry for the bad info, I just assumed.....

ohhhh

What is DIN?
Sorry I know nothing about audio :)
It is a measurement like hight and depth?
How wouldI figure out what my current eq is DIN I mean, it's pretty thin.

And I have the RCA 2 plugs and 2 bundles of wires also.

I am pretty sure a DIN is 90 mm, click on the double din link in my sig. Maybe that will help.

OK yeah my ex is a single DIN then but my eq must be like a 1/2 DIN bc is is about half as thick as my hu. It has the little slide bars you move up and down. And the 2 BUNDLES of wires out the back that end in a white quick connect plug. I can't get the quick connect adapter, I have been looking and i called Jensen. Do I just cut that off and start splicing wires? OR do I just really need a new HU.
Trying to use the stuff I have now bc my wife told me NO MORE STUFF on the truck :( but if is already paid for :D
Thanks for all the REALLY helpful info and quick responses.

Anything wrong with the cut and splice method?
Do I have to bypass anything, someone told me that since the factoru hu is amped or something I couldn't use the eq?
I don't get any of this stuff, does that mean I have to basically get a new hu and an amp?

Anyone?
