I've been doing some research on the site and can't seem to decide what I want to go with as far as exhaust is concerned. I want a nice rumble at idle, I do a lot of interstate driving so it can't be really loud and drone-like but I want it to wake up when I step on it. So far I'm thinking a 50 series flowmaster but I've been reading about people that are happy with dynomax and magnaflow. I'll prob get the muffler and have a shop bend me up some pipe, I'm thinking side dumps right under my tube steps, anyone else done this before? I don't want it to look stupid dumped there with the tube steps on, and taking those off isn't an option, I'd just run it out the back if necessary. I'm thinking 2.5" in and dual 2.5 out ? opinion? commments?

I have the Flowmaster Force II catback on my Mountaineer and, judging by your description, this might be something to look into. I know mine is a V8, but they should use the same muffler (50 series Big Block).

The system sounds really good at idle, nice rumble. It is a bit louder on acceleration, but nothing annoying. From 3,000 RPM on up, it sounds pretty close to stock, not much louder at all. On the highway, there is no drone whatsoever, but downshifting to pass produces a nice roar.

If you don't want the catback, the 50 series SUV muffler should be the same as the "big block". I've got 2.5 inch pipes.

50 Delta flow.

Thats the way I'm learning, the 50 series, just not sure SUV delta ect. I've been reading the dynomax flow better, but they also have fiberglass in 'em, I don't think the flows do ?

Flowmasters have metal welded plates, making "chambers". I didn't know about Dynomax's having fiberglass. I thought they were a straight through design like a Magnaflow.

Some can be a straight thru design but I'm looking at the super turbo which has baffling, not a huge fan of that.

Get an Ultra Flo (Dynomax). It's a fully welded muffler, with a straight through design.

I think they maybe to loud for me, (not to sound old) but I just want something with a nice sound at idle and a good rumble when I get on it.

00XLS - Have you thought about gibson? Just to throw another idea into the mix. :)

Jimcom, I'm open to suggestions, if you have pics sound clips ect post 'em. I haven't bought anything yet, I have a good idea how I'm going to run it, just no idea what i want to run !

Everythintech, I think that settles it, I was afraid side dumps weren't going to look good with the tube steps on but that doesn't look bad. I'll prob have the pipes cut to meet flush with the step. Have you have any problem with carbon or anything??

Nope I don't have any of that, but I'm leaning towards gibson from what I've read, just threw that out there to see if anyone else had a yay or nay opinion on it, just piggy-backing on your thread bro :)

No prob bud, like I said I'm not dead set in anything yet trying to see whats the best for me.
EDIT: AWESOME VID, I didn't get to do much of that this year :( I see you have a 5.0 but that sounded nice. How is yours run ect?

This is a 1999 with SOHC engine. Its 2.25" pipes with 50 series SUV dual in/dual out muffler. Its pretty quite, sounds really nice when you get on it but once you get to your cruising speed its hard to even tell you have exhaust. Anything under 3k when excellerating sounds real nice, anything about 3k and your truck sounds ricey. This is with the v6 however....

Nice truck, right now I'm thinking of single in 2.5 dual out and dumping it under the passenger door, 4 dr.

Most people think that 2.5" pipes are too big for the OHV engines, they don't give enough back pressure. You should probably go with 2.25".

Haha, you got that right Chris. Just keep it on teh snow covered areas and keep those tires spinning and she drifts just fine. Now, if your heading fro a patch of pavement, I would try my best to not let a tire hit one of those patches, that could possibly put a damper on your day. I'll try to post another video later tonight if I get a chance, it's the same place, buit I am doing AWD donuts in one spot, you can hear my tires squeeling when they hit the pavement, as well as my friend laughing. Ahhh, I love big parking lots in rural NH (UNH), and snow days off from school, gotta love those Nor-easter's.
