Exhaust question

Ok, this is only a temporary set up untill I can buy high flow cats, $150 each from www.andysautosport.com. I dont have the money yet. Right now, I have a bust cat up front, and a olt in my muffler. I am not an engine/exhaust mechanic, my specialty is lighting. Can I lop off my cats, use a Y pipe to join them, then run the pipes into a $20 Cherry Bomb muffler, then (with the spare tire out) run dual exhaust? Are there sensors afer the cats making this not work, or are there sensors along farther down?

The way it is right now, there is WAY too much back pressure, and the engine is being forced to start to misfire on CYL 3 (CHECK ENGINE code). Alot of sputtering and popping under acceleration. Im trying to clear my exhaust pipes of everything but a muffler for pressure.

You have to keep the front 2 cats there are o2 sensors right behind them, but you can cut off the back 2 if you want.

Look real hard on ebay for

2 1/4" high flow ctalytic converters


You should find some for less than 60 each--

Without them, your PCM will go nuts--

wow, definatly probably goign to buy those! THANKS! So there are 4 cats then? Because I definatly only saw two. The two right behind the passenger front tire. Wheres the other 2? Or are those it?

There should be 2 further upstream(toward engine)-
These are the 2 you want to replace-
The ones behind tire you can ditch--
Call a metal recycling center--scrap yard. You might be surprised what they will pay for the rear cats--

i've been told the first two O2 sensors are what rells the computer to adjust the air/fuel mixture and the 2nd set of O2 sensors basically jst make sure there is a difference inreadings after cat(making sure the cats are working). there are dummy sensors(sending signal showing difference in O2 readings) that allow you to get rid of the cats completely. a buddy at work runs no cat and dummy sensor on his chevy pickup and says he gets better gas milage and has no problems with any codes. he bought them from summit, but i'm not sure on the price. this info is not from personal knowledge so if it is wrong some one pipe in and let me know
