I have a borla cat-back system on my 91 4door right now, don't get me wrong it's nice but I really like loud exhausts....is there a louder exhaust avalible? or do I have the loudest? Keep in mind I want to keep my exhaust emissions legal so I don't want to gut my cat. Thanks...

Loudest I think you can get would be a Flowmaster 40 2-chamber muffler with a downturn - maybe a side exit pipe. the shorter the tailpipe the better...

Jon

how about take off the cat-back, then you'll be loud. lol ;-)

yeah, jon's right; loudest you can go is probably a flowmaster 40 series.

i have a 40 non delta and it sounds like a mustang

anyone know where I can get the flowmaster 40 series.....tried truckperformance.com and looks like all they have is 50 series....thanks for your help.

willfield2, try summit ( www.summitracing.com ) or jegs ( www.jegs.com ) i know for a fact summit has them, but jegs usually has the same stuff as summit only cheaper.

Since we're on this issue, what's a relatively quiet performance exhaust i can get? Anyone know about the Flowmaster cat-back systems?

The force II catback is quiet.

Thanks Jason, i'll look into that. :-)

god this is pretty confusing....if I went to jegs.com and clicked under the 'cat-back exhaust systems', and ordered the 389-17227.......1990-94 Ford Explorer, 4-Dr, V6, 2.25'' Dia., SOS Exit, Force-II for $158.99.....would I get a 40 series exhaust or would I get a 50 series......I'm trying to order the 40 series and this is damn confusing......please help a brotha out and explain how I can order a flowmaster 40 series cat-back exhaust!!! Thanks in advance.

off topic...

Make sure you sell that Borla here on this board. Many here would love to have one for that year model. They're hard to come by.

i'll sell you my crappy stock one when i put my borla on. its all rusted up and i think it has a few holes in it. bidding starts at $200. ;-) lol justkidding, i wish i could get that much cash for it

willfield2, what you should do is call jegs or summit and not buy a cat back system thatll fit your truck. you should just order a flowmaster 40 series muffler only (make sure the dimensions fit under your truck though) and take it to a local exhaust shop and have them run the pipes for you - theyll bend them anyway they must to make them fit. thats what i did, cept i dont have a flowmaster.

hey sorry guys, already selling the borla to one of my friends at school, I promised him...otherwise you know I'd sell it to someone from the forum....what kind of prices is it to get pipes run for the flowmaster and where would I go?(midas?). Would it be smart to run the stock pipes(still have em) and Flowmaster 40 or should I just go ahead and upgrade the pipes, the stock ones are kinda rusted....thanks again.

-Will

will, upgrade your pipes. i went to meineke to get it done and i paid about about $110-$120 for my custom pipes and the installation of my muffler (i bought my muffler separately for $75.)

cut it out

What i would do is go to your exhaust joint and ask then to cut in front of your muffler and seperate it. See what it sounds like to you. If it sound good for around thirty bucks or so I bet he will put a pipe in its place. If it has stock exhaust at that point I don't think it would be that loud without a muffler. I have done it plenty of times. If your a little noise sensetive it might not be for you.

would it still be emissions legal?

-will

EPA

Emission legal isn't the question. You can do any thing you want to your exhaust from the converter back, but you can't touch any thing from that forward unless it is CARB certified. Any thing after don't change your readings it just changes how they sound and where they come out. The question is will your local law think its too loud? Around here they don't.

willfield2, removing your muffler entirely is NOT a good idea for about a million reasons. first of all it is NOT legal - even states with liberal emissions laws still have visual inspections at the least, and no muffler is bad news. i think there has been discussion about this before somewhere, try doing a search for the other 999,999 reasons.
